The cars we love & My MGB
So Most of us have a love affair going on with a car we own or would love to own
I have two. (since I sold my 1969 GTO Judge in 1984...still kicking myself about that)
I have a 1995 Corvette...fun, fun, fun!
I get about 30 mpg mileage average so I don't feel that guilty about driving it.
But my real 4-wheeled love is my 1974 MGB (UK Losties please take note)
I bought her in 1988 and she had no interior and was several different shades of primer.
I restored her and drove her for 10 years but had to park her because the body was just rusting to nothing.
Well, I've started restoring her again and I have a blog detailing my efforts with the day-by-day details
http://mgbproject.blogspot.com/
Unfortunately, here is what she looks like now:
But this is what she'll look like by June 2009:
Now your turn...let's see your baby!

Re: The cars we love & My MGB
You wouldn't be interested in seeing my 'baby', but I sure do relate to your selling your '69 GTO! I sold my '68 Mustang in mint condition and have kicked myself ever since. I can only imagine what it would be worth today!!
It must be really nice to have something that you love to work on so much, that you blog about it.
Right now my dream car is what my son is driving, a 2003 BMW. Very nice, good mileage, too!!
Good luck with your baby!!

This, well... This is my baby as of right now!!!
My car died last week and I'm in the process of finding a new one. This will most likely be my first "brand new car" purchase ever, so I'm pretty excited.... but until then.... I'm rockin' this sweet pink dream machine!

OMG Stick!!! You've become awfully smarmy since turning thirteen! Brilliant!
Starbucks, No offence to the Missus! That cracked me up!
My first car was a Monte Carlo, and I loved that car, even though I've owned better ones, including several 'vettes'! My current ride is a new silver Grand Prix, and that baby sings!

THSM
Good one...but I'm still gonna get you...
Muwahahahahahaha
Annie, I guess we feel each other's pain on cars we wish we still had.
I got a 1968 GTO Judge parts car with my 1969 GTO and they both ran. I bought them both for $250.00 and sold them for $450.00 Today they're only worth...oh, I don't know...say a quarter million dollars
In the words of Charlie Brown:ARRRRRRRG!
JW...that is a chick magnet you got there...now if only you had the banana seat so you could haul a date on it!
Dab, I owned two 1974 Monte Carlos...loved themm both.
To further wallow in my depression over cars, let me list the first cars I owned between the ages of 16 and 19...
1962 Corvette (stolen)
1957 Chevy (electrical fire-burned to the frame)
1966 Cadillac convertable (sold)
1968 &1969 GTO Judge (sold)
1974 Corvette convertible 454 (sold)
Two 1974 Monte Carlos (black one sold to my sister-she wrecked it. Blue one sold to friend-destroyed in demolition derby)
Followed by:
1968 VW beetle...and it went downhill from there!
(sobbing quietly to myself)
Re: The cars we love & My MGB
Oh, the memories! My very first car was a 1967 VW beetle, pale blue... God, I loved that car.

Starbucks, you got to love the Montes! Mine was cream with chocolate brown roof and cream interior! I also had a little VW bug for awhile. It was white. Well, that gives away all of our ages!
First Stick gets me laughing, and now you!!!!

Re: The cars we love & My MGB
You know what, I have always been fascinated with American cars and have always wanted an old chevvy....we just dont see them over here!
(I dont have pics of any of my cars so these are googled images of the same models/colours)
I started out with a Volvo 360...an old banger but I loved her to bits and she was a perfect first car
Then I got my Mercedes SLK which I loved even more!! Had her for about a year before she got too expensive for me to run...
....and I had to swap her for a Ford KA....I was gutted at first but I soon grew to love my little KA....so much fun to chuck it around corners!
Then when I moved to Wales I was carless for about a year, then we got a fiat coupe....
Until an accident with the bonnet flipping up on the motorway forced us to trade it in for our current car, and my favourite so far, a saab 93
(obviously without the logo on the side lol)
My dream car is a Bugatti....drool drool drool......

Re: The cars we love & My MGB
Nice little project you have going there MSHL. I love the old MGB's. Does she have a name?
My first and favorite car I've owned to date was a 1977 Datsun 280Z. This isn't her but she looked exactly like that. I wish now that I hadn't let her go!
Currently I drive the prototypical American SUV. A 1993 Ford Explorer. She has some junk in the trunk but she looks OK for being 15 years old. I don't have any photos of her but here's a stock one.
My old school dream car is a '69 Camaro.
And my new school dream car is a Ford GT.
Keep us updated on your progress MSHL!

$18,000-$28,000 in good condition. Not bad for a car that sold for less than $3,500.00 new

That is scary because my Ex-wife (the second one) had two of them and got rid of them for the same reasonSunburnedPenguin wrote:

She’s never had a name Sham, she’s just “the B”
I love Z-cars, especially the 240’s. There is also a kit for putting the 5-speed Z tranny in the MG…so if you have a transmission laying around let me know
Again scary…my Ex’s first car was a cherry 68 Camaro RS.
I almost did this to my MG (photoshop is so fun) but she will be 35 years old on June-2nd so I thought I should keep her original…though my son really wanted me to do this…

This is the first car we owned. (My husband wishes he still had it!) 1958 Chevy Impala (Replica) We bought in 1959 as our first car.
It was the same year Chevy Impala, they used in 1973's American Graffiti.
This is the car I own, and drive now. 2003 Chevy Trailblazer EXT
If I win the lottery, I will have a Chevy Mustang Red 2009 Convertible !
Not the most expensive or luxurious but one I have always wanted to have.

Sham...that DB-5...drooling on my keyboard
KSJ...I love old Chevy Impalas! My mom's first car was a 66 Impala SS with a 327 engine...another care I wish was in my driveway.
And if you hit the lottery and just buy a new Mustang I will find you and spank you! Get a mint 1967...now THAT'S a Mustang!
p.s. they're made by Ford

MSHL, I am I was showing my husband your post and he caught that I had said Chevy, instead of Ford. I quickly edited it, hoping no-one would see it. I had Chevy on the brain at the time I guess. You were too quick though.
You have got that right about getting the 1967 Mustang though. That is really my first choice, as a friend had one (when they were new). I would have to win two lotteries to afford that one though!

Re: The cars we love & My MGB
OK, I am sure you know where I am going with this MSHL. Here is a picture of a 1985 black Iroc Z-28. This was the car I had until about a year ago when I sold it like an IDIOT!!! Mine was slightly different. It had T-tops and had red lettering on the side along with pinstripes. I would try to upload an image of my actual car but I am feeling a little lazy on this Labor Day.
I sold the car because I got a job that required a lot of travel. And when you live in NE Pennsylvania, you need 4-wheel drive if you are going to drive that much. So I got this 2005 Dodge Dakota, except mine is blue. It's nice.... but it's not the Iroc of America. I miss it.

Heh heh...I knew you couldn't resist this post IROC.
Being a NE PA/NW Ohio refugee I understand your choice. I grew up in high performance cars and doing donuts in the Sparkle Market parking lots was a regular leisure activity in the winter. Unfortunately, so was doing donuts on icey roads!
Those rear-drive rockets do tend to get a bit squirrly up there.

The first female to make it on Jacobs list.
Iroc, I really bet it was classic too. So come on be a sport. I'm sure MSHL,( me too ) would love to see it.

I know this isn't half as extravagant as the rest of your cars, but I've made a solid decision on what I'm buying at the end of this week. I've always wanted a Jeep and the new '08's are rather good on gas and I have a weird thing for yellow. Also, I'm kind of a country boy at heart despite living in NYC for the past 8 years....
Here she is, exactly what I'm getting this weekend:
